I've chopped off all my hair
...and I'm not very good at taking selfies. This took literally hours lols.
Anyway, I went to Bleach in Dalston and showed my uber cool hairdresser a picture of Agyness Deyn. She put a toner on my hair so that it was less yellow, snipped a load off, asked me how I felt, to which I replied 'nervous' and then she told me there was no going back now and proceeded to give me the best hair cut I have ever had eva in my life eva eva.
I couldn't wipe the smile off my face as I journeyed back across London from the depths of east. I totally 100% LOVE IT.
Definitely start of the new sassy and assertive and confident new me. Watch this space.

Uh oh spaghettio
Uh oh spaghettio I'm behind agaiiin. I still haven't rambled on about the rest of Barcelona because I went off to V fest which was incredible and beyonce made me cry because she's so fab and then we went straight to Portugal - as in like, four hours after the kings of leon finished we were arriving at Heathrow - so I just haven't had a chance. I know you're all on the edge of your seats because I did leave barcy adventures on a bit of a cliffhanger but you'll just have to try and contain your excitement at hearing all about razmataz for a teeny tiny bit longer because I'm on my way to Devon. Like, now. Am currently in a very small, full car waving goodbye to the sunny London weather. I've got my wetsuit and trainers and am looking forward to a chilled week in the sea and training.
The last days of summer are sad, but that whisper of autumn in the cool morning air before the heat of the determined final days, has a promise of new exciting things. Autumn is my favourite time of year. I hope everyone else has a lovely start to September.

Vicky and Ellie are getting their A level results tomorrow.
I'm approximately 2.7% less anxious this year, for theirs, as I was last year, for mine.
Eww it is so horrible.
Super duper good luck to them both, and super duper good luck to anyone else who is getting results tomorrow too!!
Barcelona
The long week end we spent there went both impossibly quickly and seemed to span an immense measure of time. Time was warped all week end though. The days lasted forever; the mornings spent drinking orange juice in sun-shy squares felt months apart from the evenings - permeated with promise of something intangible - which then amalgamated into the early hours of the day after the night before.
But time's illusion is unsurprising; it's a magical city.
Day One:
We woke up horrendously early. My eyeballs felt like scotch eggs. Arrived in Barcelona at about eleven and took a taxi to our hotel, which was right on La Rambla. Checked in but couldn't get into our room so left the bags with reception, where we told to go out and explore the city until three. (Yup, kinda why we're here pal.)
It was so lovely being so central; we walked out of the hotel and were immediately in the nucleus of the city. We decided we were in urgent need of an ice cream, and so stopped at one of the many ice cream stalls that line La Rambla directly:

We then bought an all day ticket for the open top bus tour and hopped on. (My sister referred to the buses as 'ho-hos' because they're hop on-hop off 'obviously'). We spent all day on the ho-hos, hopping off (and on again) for lunch in a cool little café we stumbled upon, where a man promised us three shots if we went to his restaurant for sushi and cocktails that evening. It sounded like my kind of jam. Our bus ticket consisted of three different routes, and so, always keen to get our moneys worth, we went on all three. Red and blue routes were fab. Green was short and mainly uninteresting. This is probably meaningless. Anyway, it was nice to sit in the sun and watch Barcelona go by. I applied lots of sparkly sun tan lotion. Polly and Vicky declined my very kind offer to share my sun tan lotion and thus missed their opportunity to sparkle like a vampire too. They used normal sun tan lotion. I just think that everything is better when glitter is involved.
We saw the beautiful art gallery:
We gawped at Gaudi's cathedral, which is indescribable. It's insanely beautiful and crazy in the dedication it displays and it shows off the aspect of Barcelona (maybe Spain as a whole?? Sadly I'm not well travelled enough to know) that I love the most; they respect, treasure and protect the past - and everything from the past - without being hinderingly precious about it. The beauty of Gaudi's design - and indeed, the beauty of the Gothic cathedral before him, or even just the cities apartments - doesn't hamper the future. Modern buildings sit comfortably and experimentally by the old that inspired them. Gaudi's Art Nouveau nativity façade is made all the more wonderful by the sharp contrast it was later thrown into by Josep Maria Subirachs' gaunt and emancipated figures. The old, the new and the newest (in fact, unfinished) are beautiful and crazy together. I think we should all take note of Barcelona's attitude; we can't cling on to the past if doing so will impede progression, but we can respect and learn from it. And now go Wikipedia the Gaudi Cathedral. It is soooo interesting. Or go book flights. Whichever.
We also saw the Camp Nou, the grounds Barcelona Football Club, where a game was being played that evening and was therefore full of supporters dressed in football strips. All very exciting. A man on the bus started singing.
We then headed back to the hotel and slowly started getting ready for the evening. The obscene hour we had got up at had exhausted us - Vicky had even surreptitiously fallen asleep on the ho-ho bus - so we were aiming for a chilled night.
We walked towards the gothic quarter, in hope of finding a restaurant highly recommended on trip advisor, but since the only directions were that it was 'two minutes walk' from Santa Maria del Mar, we reached aforementioned Santa Maria and gave up, picking a lovely tapas restaurant, in the del Mar square, in the shadow of it's beautiful church and stained glass window.
We ate tapas and drank Sangria (I could stop this post here. That was all we did all week end).
As we were walking back through the cobbled streets that we felt we already knew we were accosted by a promoter with a heavy Essex accent for a near by bar and inadvertently found ourselves at said bar, with cocktail in hand. No idea how that happened.
It was cool and we liked it. We sat on high stools and had a good time.
I was initially slightly anxious about the traffic and cycling in the mayhem (all European cities seem to be have entirely lawless roads) but the cycle system in Barcelona is fantastic. The bike lanes, unlike here in London, are long and useful and actually go somewhere, rather than lasting thirty seconds and then directing one into a bush. They are kept separate from the road and the kamikaze drivers, and are sometimes on the wide pavements, so that I could cycle entirely without anxiety. The bike lanes also operate on a two way traffic basis so that cyclists going in the other direction whizz past in their lane, and there are traffic lights for cyclists, so that we didn't have to randomly and recklessly peddle out into oncoming traffic every time we came to a junction. It was thoroughly enjoyable and without so much a drop of car or possible death related anxiety (unlike cycling in New York or London, where both are very much present).
Our aim was to reach the cable car that goes up to a small fort at the top of the hill to west of the city. On our way there we stopped off at the beautiful art gallery I have already mentioned:
We admired the view:
and also stopped at lots of pretty parks and had several map breaks. Every time we were inspecting the map, a local would pop out of no where and offer us help. It was lovely.
W eventually reached the cable car, but couldn't find any bike racks. But we had been told by the jolly man in the bike shop that we could only lock our bikes up to bike racks.
'No lamp posts, no railings, no fences, no trees, no motorbikes, no other bikes, no people, no dogs'.
We got it.
I went off to hunt for a place we could safely put the bikes and was told we could take the bikes on with us. We thought this hilarious, and it was a bit of a faff, and getting the bike into the small moving pod was a bit of a struggle, but the staff appeared to do it all the time. They certainly seemed entirely unfased by three girls with bikes.
The fort has beautiful views and is cool.
You can't make a day last forever. Refusing to return to your hotel wont make the sun stop sinking and the moon pause its orbit...
Eventually we went back and showered.
(More Barcelona coming asap - I don't want this post to be too long, which it invariably will be if I don't break here. It probably already is too long. If you've got to the end I congratulate you. Have a cookie. Still to come: night out at Razzmatazz, day on the beach, cathedral visiting, ice cream eating. Try and contain your excitement! Until next time.)

Barcelona Excitement.
I'm going to Barcelona tomorrow!!! Eek I'm super duper excited.
Polly and I went to Barcelona last year as the first stop of our inter-rail journey and we fell in love with it,. If a city were an equation, Barcelona would be a very good equation; it's beautiful and has history and character and charm, but is also incredibly modern and cool and both aspects are culturally significant and it has an exciting night life and good weather and a beach.
Spain won the Euro Champions or something (a football event at any rate) and the entire city became a party venue. It was soooo much fun. We met a girl called Andrea in a crammed cocktail bar who was studying at Barcelona uni and she knew everyone and everything and she got us into places for free with just a smooth Spanish word and I literally wanted to befriend her forever. Sadly, she wrote her email address down for us on a piece of paper which Polly stowed safely in her purse, which transpired to be less safe when her purse was stolen, and so we never managed to thank her for such a wonderful night.

So tomorrow we return, accompanied by my sister. I'm really looking forward to showing her all the beautiful places we visited, as well discovering more, especially as we have more time. I'm particularly excited about the tapas experience, my sister will totally appreciate that.
I haven't yet started packing, although I have obviously drawn a plan of each of my outfits, and we leave at five tomorrow morning, so I should probably go and do that.
International Friendship Day.
1. Friends
Because they are the most famous friends, like, ever, and also because the more time I spend at uni living with so many hysterical girls and smelly boys, the more I think it's maybe quite realistic. I like that.
2. Jenifer Aniston and Courtney Cox
Moving on from the fabulous fictional Friends, Jen and Courtney are apparently real life besties. I imagine their friendship is just like it is in Friends i.e lots of quick one liners about Angelina and a laughter track.
3. Winnie the Pooh and Piglet
Since it was first published in 1924, and Disney-fied in 1966, Pooh and Piglet have surely been everyone's "hashtag friendship goals". Piglet's enduring trust in Pooh and Pooh's eternal optimism means that theirs is a relationship in which hope triumphs over experience. We all need a friendship like that.
4. David and Victoria Beckham.
Ok, so maybe not exactly friends - more like power couple/emerging dynasty - but still, one assumes that they have to actually like each other in order to have formed such a super team together. And a list of famous duos which doesn't include Posh and Becks is surely incomplete. Besides who doesn't enjoy pictures from the really early days of their relationship, matching polo neck jumpers, greasy bob (on his part) and all?

Bristol Half Marathon Training.
I'm raising money for a fabulous charity called Beat, which helps people and their families who are affected by eating disorders. The money I hope to raise will therefore go towards enabling Beat to run vital support services to help people beat their eating disorders. This charity means a lot to me and I would be sooooo grateful if people could get involved in the smallest way possible (to make all those early morning runs worthwhile!).

Me being pleased with myself in a slightly horrible geeky way for just a nano second and then I'll stop I promise.
I clearly didn't spend enough of first year drunk.
That's all I'm saying on the matter.
.
Hair-spiration.
I went brunette for winter:
And then I bleached it for summer because bleached blonde hair is a summer essential:
(This was really quite traumatic. I'm a poor student and so obvs I bleached it at home. The first attempt went GINGER. Actually not even ginger. A sort of orange colour. Not the desired effect, truth be told. I spent all night bleaching my hair but I still had to venture out the next day with weird yellow hair. I was going to the Bowie Is exhibition so I just painted my lips purple and wore some very old tartan trousers and embraced punk in homage to Bowie's best 70's looks.
Side note: The exhibition is FAB. Because I was desperateeeee to go but didn't get my act together in time to get hold of a ticket I became a member of the V&A just so I could go and it's totally worth it.)
And next I want to go white/lilac. Does that make sense?? Almost a sort of blue rinse, but without the set and winter fuel allowance.

Showy Off Geek Returns.
I got various essays back and I got pretty solid 2:1 in all of them and I was reeeeally close to getting a first in my Hume essay (which I did go mental about so that's nice. Hume became my best friend for quite a long period of time and it was only when everyone else started asking me about Hume as though he were a dear relation of mine that I decided I needed to re-evaluate my life because, much as I love Hume and everything, spending so long with him that friends check up on 'the two of you' (genuine quote) is too far). I did less well in my Approaches to Poetry exam which was, all in all, a hellish experience for which I was totally not prepared and I nearly vommed on the way in to. I passed, but we'll say no more about it.
I'm currently writing an essay asking 'Is moral judgement "a kind of coinage valid only in its country of origin"?'
It's quite interesting and I should probably get on with it.
It's really annoying me that I can't resize my pictures on here. Waa it makes it look ugly I know I know don't judge, look beyond appearances people.

Previously...
Polly came to visit. Oh my Lord we had so much fun:
I dressed up as a dead cat for Halloween:
Me and Claudia continued to have lots of fun out and about and I started fancying hot philosophy boy obscene amounts:
