International Friendship Day.

Yesterday was International Friendship Day. Promoted by the UN in order to improve and create friendships between nations and races, the celebration of friendship has existed since at least 1958 and more casually for decades before then, with friends exchanging gifts and flowers to celebrate their friendships. I love this; it's like Valentines Day except without over priced chocolates and self hate. So although I am a tiny bit late (as ever; fashionably so) today is a fantastic day to grab a friend and celebrate.
Another Magazine celebrated their favourite film friendships (http://www.anothermag.com/current/view/2867/Top_10_Friendships_on_Film), which inspired my own favourite friendships. Check out both of our top tens.

1. Friends
Because they are the most famous friends, like, ever, and also because the more time I spend at uni living with so many hysterical girls and smelly boys, the more I think it's maybe quite realistic. I like that.

2. Jenifer Aniston and Courtney Cox
Moving on from the fabulous fictional Friends, Jen and Courtney are apparently real life besties. I imagine their friendship is just like it is in Friends i.e lots of quick one liners about Angelina and a laughter track.

3. Winnie the Pooh and Piglet
Since it was first published in 1924, and Disney-fied in 1966, Pooh and Piglet have surely been everyone's "hashtag friendship goals". Piglet's enduring trust in Pooh and Pooh's eternal optimism means that theirs is a relationship in which hope triumphs over experience. We all need a friendship like that.

4. David and Victoria Beckham.
Ok, so maybe not exactly friends - more like power couple/emerging dynasty - but still, one assumes that they have to actually like each other in order to have formed such a super team together. And a list of famous duos which doesn't include Posh and Becks is surely incomplete. Besides who doesn't enjoy pictures from the really early days of their relationship, matching polo neck jumpers, greasy bob (on his part) and all?

5. Johnny Depp and Tim Burton
They're the dream team behind the likes of Edward Scissorhands, Charlie and The Chocolate Factory, Sweeney Tod and Alice in Wonderland, to name just a few. They're both insane and insanely cool. I love how much creativity must jangle about the place when they get together for a drink in their local (which they deffo do).

6. Hilary Clinton and Meryl Streep
LOOK! This is AWESOME. These two are AWESOME. This selfie is possibly my favourite thing that has happened eva eva. I also think it should become the poster for New Girl Power and Feminism. That's all.

8. Justin Timberlake and Ryan Gosling

This actually adooooorable photo of the two from the early 1990s, when Justin parents became Ryan's legal guardians whilst both appearing on The Micky Mouse Club, is all that is needed. Any friendship involving two such beautiful people has my full support.

9.  Something Borrowed
I don't want to ruin the end or anything, but Rachel probably doesn't really behave in ideal best-friend-appropriate-manner, BUT her and Darcy's routine to Push It is so fab that it makes it all ok. Kinda.

Me and my girls are learning the dance. It's a lot harder than it looks and I have basically no coordination so it's all a bit problematic, and really frustrating for the rest of the girls who can dance, especially when I forget the really very basic one-two-three step and twist that we've just spent an hour and a half mastering, but it is super duper fun and we're very much looking forward to performing it as a flashmob on the tube. Watch this space.

10. My Girls
Talking of 'my girls', here's a pic of us all because, well, it is International Friendship Day and they are all pretty top. Even though we're scattered all over the country during term time, whenever we see each other, it's like nothing has changed. One day we're all going to live together in a grotty flat in London which we'll make beautiful purely through the power of creativity and fairy lights and it'll be like we're in a sitcom and we'll share ice cream out of the tub and won't need any men.

Hope everyone hugged a special friend yesterday, and today too because why not, happy International Friendship Day!
